Tradesman Insurance

Many of us can handle minor renovations ourselves, but if you’re looking at major or structural renovations it is likely that you’ll need a qualified tradesman.  This is especially true if your renovation works include electrical or plumbing work.

There are many different things to look out for when choosing a tradesman, be they a carpenter, electrician, plumber or even just a general handyman.  One of the most important factors to look at is whether or not they have good tradesman insurance in place.

Things can go wrong when doing any sort of renovation work, and it is vital that your tradie has sufficient tradesman insurance in place to protect you in the event that things go wrong during your renovation works.

Checking your tradie’s insurance credentials is easy.  Simply ask to see the certificate of currency for each of the insurances they hold.  The most important cover will be public liability insurance, as this cover will protect you and your tradesman financially if their renovation work results in damage to your property or personal injury to you or anyone else visiting your home.

It’s also important that your tradesman has income protection insurance, however that is really a matter for them and will not affect you so much.

There are plenty of well qualified renovators out there, but make sure you won’t be hurt financially by using a tradie with the right trade insurance in place.
